Get injured less. Strength training for runners in Clydebank, from parkrun to marathon: coached lifting for the hips, glutes and calves that carry the miles, mobility that stops the niggles turning into lay-offs, and a nutrition plan for training weeks. • Two sessions a week. Enough to get strong, not so much that it steals your legs from the long run. The plan sits around your running, not on top of it.
  • Hips, glutes, calves. Single-leg squats, hinges, step-ups and calf work, coached until the technique is right. The bits that go wrong in runners are the bits we train.
  • Mobility that is strength. Loaded range of motion rather than stretching for the sake of it, so the hips and ankles move under load.
  • Fuel the miles. A nutrition plan with enough carbohydrate for training weeks and a protein target for recovery, written for you.
  • Measured. Weighed and measured in week one and week eight, plus the number that matters to you: a parkrun time, a race, or just knees that do not complain.

How it fits

Around the running, never instead of it.

Tell me your weekly miles and race dates and the strength work bends to them.

Base and build weeks

Two coached strength sessions, Sanctuary Strength or small-group PT, on your easy days.

Race fortnight

One light session the week before, nothing heavy in race week. You arrive fresh.

Between plans

Three sessions a week and a proper strength block. The best time to get strong is when the mileage is low.

Sanctuary Functional class.

Inside the gym

This is what a session looks like.

Filmed on a phone in the gym at Clydebank Business Park. Coached from the first minute, scaled to the person, nobody at the front doing the workout instead of watching yours.

Questions

Good to know.

Will lifting make me heavier or slower?

Runners who lift twice a week get faster, not heavier. Muscle in the right places moves you forward; we are not building bodybuilders.

Which classes suit runners?

Sanctuary Strength and Sanctuary Functional. Skip Sanctuary Conditioning on the days you have a hard run; I will tell you which is which.

I am training for a marathon. Is eight weeks enough?

It is a block, not the whole plan. Most runners do a block in the base phase and another after the race. Message me with the race date and we will time it.

I keep getting injured. Can you help?

Often, yes. Most running injuries trace back to weak hips and calves and too much too soon. Strength fixes the first two; a sensible plan fixes the third.
