The usual story: you trained in your twenties, then work and kids happened, and now something hurts and the weight crept up. The way back is not the way you trained at 25.
Strength is the priority
Muscle and bone are what you are protecting for the next thirty years. Two strength sessions a week, coached, with loads that go up slowly, is the core of the plan.
Joints first
Warm-ups that actually warm you up. Ranges of motion you own before you load them. Goblet squats before back squats. Dumbbell presses before barbell. It is not slower; it is how you avoid the six-week layoff that stops people for good.
Conditioning without the wreckage
HIIT works at any age when it is scaled for recovery. You will work hard and walk out fine.
Nutrition for a slower engine
Protein higher than you think, calories a bit lower than at 25, and structure so hunger does not run the day. It is written for you in week one.
What eight weeks does
Most over-40s who start at Sanctuary Fitness are stronger in week eight than they were at 30, and the measurements show it. Then it is a matter of keeping the two sessions a week that did it.
