Personal training around Glasgow runs from about £30 a session at the cheaper end to £60 and more in the West End and city centre. Chain gyms usually add a membership on top. Most trainers sell blocks of ten, so a realistic first month of one-to-one coaching is £350 to £600.
What you are paying for
The session is the visible part. The useful part is the programme written for you, the technique correction that stops you getting hurt, and someone checking your nutrition every week. If a trainer only turns up and counts reps, the price is high whatever the number.
How Sanctuary Fitness prices it
- 8-Week Package, £205. Every coached class on the timetable (seven a week), small-group Personal Training slots in small groups, a nutrition plan written for you, and measurements in week one and week eight. That is £25.63 a week, and under £7 a session if you train three times a week.
- One-to-one PT, £295 for ten sessions. Two private sessions a week for five weeks with nutrition. £29.50 a session, which is the bottom of the Glasgow range for a private studio with a coach who has done this since 2010.
Why the package is cheaper per session than a chain gym membership feels
A £25 monthly membership is only cheap if you go. Most people who join in January have stopped by March, and the direct debit keeps going. Eight weeks with a fixed finish, a coach expecting you, and numbers at both ends is a different product. The price is honest because the result is measured.
Questions to ask any trainer before you pay
- Will you write my programme, or is it the same for everyone?
- Is nutrition included or extra?
- How do you measure progress?
- What happens if I miss a week?
- Is there a contract?
At Sanctuary Fitness the answers are: written for you, included, measured in week one and eight, you carry on, and no.
